Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is known to be effective for a range of challenges including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders and severe mental illness. CBT is centered around the principal that thoughts and perceptions influence behaviour. This negative influence can then manifest itself into other areas of our lives. CBT aims to support the client in identifying harmful thoughts, assess whether they are an accurate depiction of reality, and, if they are not, develop strategies to challenge and overcome them.
