Narrative therapy is a particular therapeutic approach that provides clients with the opportunity to view themselves separate from their problem(s). This allows clients to get distance from the issue to understand how past experiences and present circumstances may be helping or protecting them, more than how it is hurting them. With this new perspective, clients often feel more empowered to make changes in their thought patterns and behaviour and “rewrite” their life story in a way that supports them in the present and future that is separate from the problem(s)
